THE DARTMOOR BOOK FAIR

The twice yearly Dartmoor Book Fair takes place on Sunday September 7th at Tavistock Town Hall from 10.30am until 4.00pm. Admission is one pound, accompanied children free and refreshments are available in the bar area all day. The fair takes place in the magnificent main hall on the first floor, and there is a lift for disabled access. This well attended fair features highlights from the stock of 15 of the region's leading bookdealers, including secondhand, antiquarian, rare or pre-owned books, maps, prints, letters, autographs and ephemera. The fair is managed by Graham York on behalf of the PBFA - a reputable trade association, known throughout the world by the standard of their events, and requirements of the members. Whilst the quality and authenticity of the goods for sale is high, the atmosphere at this fair remains friendly and informal. This is the account of Ernest Shackleton's final expedition to the Antarctic, which set sail from Plymouth in September 1921, with the objective of circumnavigating the continent. When the ship reached South Georgia Shackleton fell ill and died and he was buried on this remote South Atlantic island. Ê£485.00

Croydon, oblong folio, 7 tinted lithographs (of 10; lacks two of Berry Pomeroy and Torquay from Livermead), cloth spine over white shiny paper boards ornately lettered in red and gilt within an ornamental gilt border. [Somers Cocks S.178]. Boards rubbed, slight foxing, otherwise very good. Very rare. £750.00.
